Chesterfield Commons

Chesterfield Valley in Chesterfield, Mo.

In 1996, a daring development plan was unveiled by THF Realty to resurrect Chesterfield Valley from a devastating flood of historic proportions. One million square feet of retail space was planned in an area that was submerged under 10 feet of water just three years earlier. This $50 million investment was entrusted to Brinkmann Constructors, which built the first phase of the retail center with 750,000 square feet of space and managed infrastructure improvements ? raising 12 miles of levee to 500-year flood protection and building a brand new highway interchange. Brinkmann reviewed pavement section alternates for the most economical designs for the parking lot to save about $100,000 in construction costs. Brinkmann?s value engineering of storm sewer design reduced costs by another $100,000.
